Dr. Kjosness studies the evolution and development of skeletal anatomy and variation in mammals, especially humans and non-human primates. She is interested in understanding how gene expression patterns during development influence skeletal growth and shape. Dr. Kjosness uses a combination of techniques in her research including gene expression data, histology, and 3D geometric morphometrics. One of her current projects focuses on investigating the role of Hox genes in the development of wrist and ankle morphology.
Dr. Kjosness teaches anatomy and embryology in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program and gross anatomy in the Biomedical Sciences Master’s (MS) program. She also mentors students in the research laboratory.
