KENNETH J. VEIT, DO '76, MBA, FACOFP

Kenneth J. Veit, DO '76, MBA, FACOFP, joined Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) as a full-time faculty member in 1980. Since 1992, he has served as the senior vice president of academic affairs. Dr. Veit also served as dean of academic affairs from 1992 to 2022; his was the longest deanship in the College's history, spanning 30 years. His deanship is likewise the longest in osteopathic history, according to the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM). In 2009, he was given the additional title of provost.

Prior to these positions, Dr. Veit served the College in various capacities including associate dean of Graduate Medical Education and director of the PCOM Healthcare Centers, which function as the primary teaching outpatient care clinics of the College. He is a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and continues to actively teach and conduct weekly patient care sessions.

Prior to his affiliation with PCOM, Dr. Veit was the chief medical officer for Region 3 of the United States Public Health Service. He also served for four years in the National Health Service Corp working in Orbisonia, a rural community in central Pennsylvania.

Dr. Veit's academic interests include many aspects of medical education and healthcare delivery. He has published and participated in national and regional studies regarding best medical education practices and he has participated in numerous Macy conferences on medical education.

Dr. Veit has been a member of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Council of Pre-Doctoral Education and was chair of the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, the accrediting body for all colleges of osteopathic medicine. He previously served as chair of AACOM. He remains an active trustee of the Pennsylvania State Osteopathic Association and of the AOA.

Education

Dr. Veit earned his DO degree from PCOM in 1976, post graduate training at the Staten Island Public Health Service Hospital and received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Temple University in 1989. He is board certified in Osteopathic Family Medicine and a current Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Awards

Dr. Veit is a Fellow of both the American College of Osteopathic Family Practice and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. He has been honored with the United States Public Health Service Humanitarian Medal, Commissioned Officer Superior Service Award, Shankweiler Fellow Award and Dale Dodson Award. He received the PCOM O.J. Snyder Award in 2012 and the POMA Distinguished Service Award in 2015.

Memberships

Dr. Veit serves on the Board of Directors/Board of Trustees for the Quality Medical HMO-Foundations of Health, Philadelphia Health Management Corporation, Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also on the board of the Commission of Osteopathic College Accreditation and is Medical Director of the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.
