MATTHEW SHELNUTT, DO '17, FACOOG
Assistant Professor
Matthew Shelnutt, DO '17, is an Assistant Professor of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
(OMM) at PCOM South Georgia. He grew up in Stockbridge, GA, and obtained a bachelor
of science degree in biology from Clayton State University. Dr. Shelnutt went to medical
school at PCOM Georgia in Suwanee, GA, and graduated in 2017. He served as an Osteopathic
Undergraduate Teaching Scholar during his time at PCOM Georgia.
Dr. Shelnutt completed a residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University
of Michigan Health West in Wyoming, MI, in 2017. He served as co-chief OB/GYN resident
his senior year, and was also the Resident Representative for ACOOG's Continuing Medical
Education Committee. Dr. Shelnutt was in clinical practice at Ascension Borgess Hospital
following residency where he taught OB/GYN residents as a clinical assistant professor
of OB/GYN for Western Michigan University's Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine. He
received the OB/GYN Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022 from this institution.
Dr. Shelnutt is currently full-time teaching faculty at PCOM South Georgia for the
Department of OMM, a member of the National Faculty in the Clinical Department of
OB/GYN and OPP/NMM on the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, and he
maintains active clinical privileges in the southwest Georgia community. He has a
particular interest in educating students, residents, and the community about factors
that determine health equity, decreasing morbidity and mortality for pregnant people
of color, and healthcare needs for the LGBTQIA+ community.
