MELISA SMITH, PT, DPT
Assistant Professor

Dr. Melisa Smith joined the PCOM Georgia faculty in November 2019 as assistant professor and assistant director of clinical education. She has been a practicing physical therapist for more than 27 years and has been involved in academe since 2014 in Texas and in Georgia. Dr. Smith has clinical experience across the continuum of physical therapy including inpatient and out patient pediatrics, acute care, sub-acute rehabilitation, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient neurological rehabilitation, wound care, skilled nursing home, aquatic therapy, home health therapy, and outpatient orthopedics.

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy from Utica College (2012)
  • Post- Baccalaureate Certificate in Advanced Pediatric Physical Therapy from Texas Woman’s University (2012)
  • Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from St. Louis University (1995)

Research

Dr. Smith's research interests include pediatric and neurology therapy interventions and outcomes. Other interests include disparities in access to healthcare present in the United States.
