GA-PCOM DO Students Celebrate Residency Matches

March 22, 2018

Fourth-year DO students from Georgia Campus - Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine gathered at SweetWater brewery to celebrate their residency matches.

Close to 100 exuberant fourth-year Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) students from Georgia Campus - Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM) gathered at SweetWater brewery in Atlanta on Saturday to toast each other and to celebrate their residency matches. The Military Match, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Intern/Resident Registration Program, and the National Resident Matching Program, collectively called the “Match,” are complete and students have learned where they will be spending their next several years as residents honing their skills.

Graduates have matched to a myriad of programs in a wide variety of specialties. Some of the class of 2018 members will be represented at Georgia residency programs including WellStar Graduate Medical Education Residency at Kennestone in Marietta, Georgia South Family Medicine Residency at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie, Mercer University in Macon, Houston Healthcare Residency program in Warner Robins, Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome.

The Match Day event was spearheaded by DO Class Chair Alexander Navone (DO ’18) along with a committee of class leaders and with support from PCOM’s Office of Institutional Advancement. A photo booth, slideshow, brews and barbecue were all featured at the event as well as hugs, handshakes and video greetings from faculty members.

With commencement set for May 24, the occasion provided an opportunity for GA-PCOM students to reminisce about medical school and celebrate the future prior to beginning the next phase of their respective careers.
