Assistant professor Kristie Petree, DO, provided medical care to legislators and staff
at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.
Kristie Petree, DO, assistant professor of neuromusculoskeletal medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine at Georgia Campus – Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM), recently served as the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) “Doctor of the Day” during the legislative session at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.
Her day began in the Senate chambers where she was introduced by District 45 Senator Renee Unterman. She then volunteered to work a full day in the Medical Aid Station located on the second floor of the Capitol building where she provided free minor medical care to legislators and their staff members.
“Serving as the Medical Association of Georgia ‘Doctor of the Day’ was an incredible opportunity,” Dr. Petree said. “It was an honor to participate and provide care at the Medical Aid Station and a privilege to represent osteopathic medicine in the community.“
The Doctor of the Day program is a non-political service that MAG provides for Georgia legislators. Any physician licensed in Georgia, regardless of specialty, can serve as a MAG Doctor of the Day volunteer. Physicians are covered by Georgia’s Good Samaritan Law.
MAG relies on the generosity of physicians and pharmacists to furnish the Medical Aid Station with medicine. Among the most common medications that are needed are amoxicillin, Benadryl, aspirin, Advil, Tylenol, Claritin, Robitussin, Neosporin ointment and blood glucose test strips.
Established in 2005, PCOM Georgia is a branch campus of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), a private, not-for-profit, accredited institution of higher education with a storied 125-year history dedicated to the healthcare professions.
