Reece Appointed to Medical Cannabis Commission
May 18, 2015Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has named Sara (Mandy) Wilson Reece, PharmD, to his Commission on Medical Cannabis, a new committee that will help set Georgia's
policies on medical marijuana. Dr. Reece is Assistant Professor and Vice Chair of
the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) School of Pharmacy, located
in Suwanee, Georgia.
A resident of Gainesville, Reece earned a doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University
College of Pharmacy. She is an active member of the American Association of Diabetes
Educators (AADE), American College of Clinical Pharmacy, Georgia Pharmacy Association
and American Pharmacists Association. She has given poster presentations at AADE Annual
Meetings, published several manuscripts in the areas of gestational diabetes and insulin
pump therapy, earned the Peach Teaching Award for 2012 – 2013, the Greater Hall Chamber's
2011 Silver Shovel Award, and was named one of 40 under 40 Pharmacists by the Georgia
Pharmacy Association in 2003.
Chaired by Macon state representative Allen Peake, the commission is comprised of
nine members including physicians, attorneys, state legislators and law enforcement
representatives. Committee members will advise the General Assembly on implementing
the medical marijuana law and making possible changes. The law allows doctors to prescribe
a form of cannabis oil for people facing different types of medical conditions.
