PCOM will once again partner in the 2017 Philadelphia Science Festival—an innovative, nine-day celebration that explores the many ways that science and technology touch our everyday lives. A citywide collaboration that runs April 21–29, the Festival unites 200 of the region’s most influential institutions, museums and cultural centers in a common goal.

College faculty will showcase their expertise to educate thousands of Philadelphians at the following events:

Friday, April 21: Science After Hours: Prom, 7 p.m., Franklin Institute
A team of PCOM faculty members led by Sarah Allen, PhD, assistant professor, psychology; Denah Appelt, PhD, professor of neuroscience, physiology and pharmacology; Brian Balin, PhD, professor , microbiology and immunology and chair, bio-medical sciences; and Kerin Claeson, PhD, associate professor, anatomy, will be on-hand to discuss their research and knowledge of the brain.

Sunday, April 23: Murder at the Mutter, 2:30 p.m., Mutter Museum
Greg McDonald, DO ’89, professor and chair, forensic medicine, will use his expertise to help attendees solve a staged murder during this wildly popular event. (Note: this event is sold out.)

Saturday, April 29: Science Carnival at Penn’s Landing
Explore the Mega Brain®, the world's only portable, inflatable, walk-through brain exhibit, and learn about brain form and function from PCOM faculty and students. The exhibit will be located next to the Independence Seaport Museum.

In addition, Peter Bidey, DO ’08, assistant professor, family medicine; Larry Finkelstein, DO ’87, associate professor, family medicine; and residents from the PCOM/Suburban Community Hospital Family Medicine residency, took osteopathic manipulative medicine to Citizen’s Bank Park on April 9, as part of Science at the Ballpark. The event was held as a preview to the main Festival.

Created, organized and led by The Franklin Institute and presented by The Dow Chemical Company, the annual Festival brings science to restaurants, parks, breweries, libraries, museums and other neighborhood places across the city.
