PCOM South Georgia Groundbreaking Set for April 26

February 21, 2018

A groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction for PCOM South Georgia, an additional location of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), is planned for Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the 2100 block of Tallokas Road near the intersection of Veterans Parkway in Moultrie, Georgia.

A four-year osteopathic medical program, which will train college graduates to become physicians, will be offered at the new 75,000-square-foot facility with 55 medical students beginning classes in August of 2019.

As part of the celebration, an essay contest in conjunction with the Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center is underway. Both high school and college students are invited to respond to the question, “How can your generation work together to help shape the future of health in South Georgia?” Scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be given to one high school and one college student. Essay contest winners will be announced during groundbreaking festivities.

PCOM’s admissions department will begin offering information sessions in the region to inform prospective students and college pre-health advisors about PCOM South Georgia. Session dates will be posted on pcom.edu as they are planned.

On December 5, 2017, PCOM received initial approval from the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation to establish an additional location in South Georgia. Final approval to begin operations will be granted following a visit to the new facility early in 2019. The aim of the osteopathic medical program is to educate students from the region who are committed to serving the health needs of their communities.
