Interprofessional Education (IPE)
PCOM School of Pharmacy
The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum emphasizes proactive, patient-centered care. We train our students to
become collaborative healthcare team members who promote health improvement, wellness
and disease prevention.
The first three years of the PharmD curriculum emphasize a didactic interprofessional education (IPE) component. In these courses,
pharmacy students work with their counterparts in the osteopathic medicine, physical
therapy and physician assistant studies programs as an interprofessional collaborative
team to investigate and discuss issues related to patient care. IPE coursework includes
simulations and special patient population cases which provide students with the opportunity
to develop clinical knowledge, communication, cultural and religious competency, teamwork
and ethical decision making skills.
The final year of the PharmD curriculum emphasizes experiential Interprofessional
Collaborative Practice (IPCP) training with other healthcare team members such as
nurses, physicians and medical students.
