Sigma Sigma Phi, Georgia Campus – Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (GA-PCOM) national honorary osteopathic service fraternity, recently welcomed 25 new members at a ceremony attended by about 75 guests and held in the Atrium on campus. Twenty-three members from the osteopathic medicine class of 2021 and two members from the class of 2020 were inducted into the Zeta Alpha Chapter.
Dean and Chief Academic Officer H. William Craver III delivered the keynote address while Clinical Professor of Surgery Frank Jones, Sr., MD shared remarks about his life as a physician. Obianuju Nwamah (DO ‘ 21) performed “What a Wonderful World” during the April 13 ceremony.
R. Bryan Ginn, Jr., chief campus officer at GA-PCOM and faculty sponsor for the chapter, spoke of the fraternity’s commitment to service.
“The members of Zeta Alpha Chapter of Sigma Sigma Phi are highly committed to community service, taking actions to support organizations where they make a significant and positive impact all while focusing intently on their academic performance as medical students,” Ginn said. “These members are truly selfless servants of other's needs and it shows."
GA-PCOM’s Zeta Alpha chapter members raised funds and volunteered for several community service projects last year. The chapter raised more than $3,500 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses in Georgia. In addition, chapter members hosted a Red Cross Blood Drive, volunteered with the Nehemiah Project to help retired veterans and partnered with GA-PCOM’s chapter of the Christian Medical and Dental Association to volunteer at the Grace Clinic in Clarkston, Georgia.

Incoming executive board members include Jonathan Selzman, president; Akila Raja, vice president; Alexandra Himes, secretary; Kajal Patel, treasurer; Kylie Alberts, editor; and Olga Vacariuc, community service chair.
Founded in 1921 in Kirksville, Missouri, Sigma Sigma Phi’s objectives and purposes include furthering the science of osteopathic medicine and its standards of practice, improving the scholastic standing and promoting a higher degree of fellowship among its students, and bringing about a closer relationship and understanding between student bodies and college faculty members.
Established in 2005, PCOM Georgia is a branch campus of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), a private, not-for-profit, accredited institution of higher education with a storied 125-year history dedicated to the healthcare professions. Located in Suwanee (Gwinnett County), PCOM Georgia offers doctoral degrees in osteopathic medicine, pharmacy and physical therapy. Graduate degrees are offered in biomedical sciences, medical laboratory science and physician assistant studies.
