Mindy George-Weinstein received her PhD from Thomas Jefferson University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. She has been engaged in research and teaching throughout her career. Her laboratory discovered cells that regulate embryonic development, participate in wound healing and protect neurons in the retina. As PCOM’s Chief Research and Science Officer, Dr. George-Weinstein oversees the Division of Research that provides guidance for project development, operational support, resources and intramural funding for research activities at PCOM's locations.

Jane Dumsha has been with PCOM since 1995. She has overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Dr. Dumsha coordinates research opportunity dissemination, reviews and approves proposals to all potential sponsors, assists in review/negotiation of agreements and proposals, and coordinates internal approvals of grants, contracts, subawards and modifications. She is also the electronic signing official for proposals and narrative progress reports, including NIH eRA Commons and HRSA Electronic Handbooks (EHBs), and serves as the Financial Conflict of Interest officer. Dr. Dumsha conducts seminars on research design and methods, research considerations for trainees, funding and other resources for beginning researchers and grant writing.

Ahmad Cader received his MS degree from Thomas Jefferson University. He has spent a large portion of his career at the bench researching and identifying neuronal markers in both Alzheimer's disease and wound healing models. He also has extensive experience training graduate researchers in laboratory research techniques. As research officer for both PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia, he supports the advancement of interdisciplinary research initiatives across healthcare fields and departments. Specifically his role provides guidance for laboratory operations, project development, operational support, resources and intramural funding for research activities at both of PCOM's Georgia locations.

Marcia Pastella-Brady and Michele Taylor serve as advisors for development and management of the Division of Research's budgets at PCOM and PCOM Georgia. They are responsible for purchasing goods and services with funds from the Division of Research's operational budget and external grants for the Philadelphia location. Additionally, they assist with staff and student travel, purchasing capital equipment and maintaining service agreements.

Theresa Stem has been with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at PCOM since 1998. She manages research applications and protocols requiring institutional review and approval. Ms. Stem facilitates the review and approval process, and interprets and applies relevant federal and state laws, regulations and institutional policies and guidelines. She also provides training and advice to faculty, staff and student researchers on federal and institutional regulations, and the preparation of applications and consent forms.

Jacquelyn White assists the Chief Research and Science Officer, Chief Research Operations Officer and Resource Manager in managing day-to-day operations and administrative tasks within the Division of Research. In addition to coordinating and scheduling meetings, presentations and other Division of Research related events, she is the administrator for the Research Committee, provides technical assistance for grant preparation and grant database maintenance, and oversees the Federal Work Study program for more than 100 student researchers at each PCOM location. Ms. White also maintains the content of the Division of Research's internal and external websites.

Jacquelyn Gerhart, MS, is the Director of the Bioimaging Facility and coordinator of the research support staff at the Philadelphia location. She oversees the daily operations of the core microscopy facility that provides light, fluorescent, confocal, scanning and electron microscopy services to PCOM faculty, staff and students. As coordinator of the research support staff, she works with the laboratory personnel and faculty to encourage and facilitate research at PCOM. Ms. Gerhart also conducts her own research in the areas of vision and ocular diseases.

Handong Ma is the Research Laboratory Manager for the PCOM Georgia location. She administrates and manages the day-to-day laboratory operations and serves as the liaison between research personnel, faculty and administration. In addition to training and supervising students and research staff, she assists with designing experiments, performs experiments, evaluates data and develops and implements lab policies and procedures.

Yan Wu, MS

Yan Wu joined the research staff of the PCOM Georgia location in 2011. Her areas of expertise include histology, immunocytochemistry, two-photon and confocal microscopy, cell culture, and protein biochemistry. She applied her computer programming skills to modify biological imaging acquisition/analyzing software. Ms. Wu is the coordinator of the Bioimaging Facility at PCOM Georgia, performs experiments and is responsible for general laboratory and instrument maintenance, overseeing laboratory safety and training students.
