Scholars in Action
Scholarship Program for DO Students

The Scholars in Action scholarship program will be established for new incoming Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) students starting in August 2022.

Mission Statement

PCOM's Scholars in Action scholarship program provides additional support and resources to selected medical students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in order to encourage success and improve outcomes for those students.

Scholarship Program Description

The Scholars in Action program will support five students across PCOM's three locations each academic year with additional resources during their four years of enrollment in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program.

Criteria and scholarship amounts

Students in this program are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and show academic promise for success at PCOM. Each student will receive a guaranteed $2,500 annual scholarship from the PCOM Foundation for each of their four years in the osteopathic medical program, totaling $10,000 overall.

Loan for Disadvantaged Students

Students will also have the opportunity to receive the Loan for Disadvantaged Students (LDS) in their third and fourth year of the program. The LDS loan program is a federally-funded interest free loan which provides a flexible repayment arrangement.

Small group support for scholarship recipients

Students will also have the opportunity to meet in small groups and receive additional support from campus resources. Sessions will be made available to scholarship recipients throughout the course of their first and second year. Discussion topics will include but are not limited to:

  • Resume writing
  • Time management and study skills
  • Financial wellness
  • Mental health and wellness
  • Physical health and wellness

Students will receive individual coaching and support from the financial wellness team member on their campus.

In order to continue to receive the scholarship in the third and fourth years, students will be required to serve as mentors to the underclassmen within the Scholars in Action cohort.
