Testing and evaluation
In recent years, the number of students diagnosed with disabilities attending higher
educational institutions has increased dramatically. Members of the largest group
of students with disabilities have learning disabilities. The diagnosis of a learning
disability is often made by a psychologist trained in administering and interpreting
psycho-educational assessments. Psychologists use the results of their assessments
to understand how individuals receive, process, integrate, retain and communicate
information.
The goal is to give the student with a disability equal access to the learning environment.
Individualized accommodations are not designed to give the student an advantage over
other students, to alter a fundamental aspect of the course, nor to weaken academic
rigor. PCOM is committed to meeting the accommodation needs of students who provide
appropriate documentation to support their request.
PCOM's Title IX Coordinator
Students with a learning or physical disability should email the Title IX Coordinator
at disabilityservices@pcom.edu to discuss appropriate documentation needed to receive accommodations. It is the
student's responsibility to request services in a timely manner. Once all paperwork
is received, the Title IX Coordinator will confirm the student's eligibility for services
and accommodations.
Students with a disability are responsible for communicating approved accommodations
with course directors and student affairs staff as well as meeting all course requirements
using only approved accommodations.
