Department of Counseling
School of Professional and Applied Psychology
The Department of Counseling houses the Master of Science (MS) in Mental Health Counseling program. This program offers a dynamic curriculum designed to prepare counselors
to work in the mental health field or to pursue doctoral study in psychology and counseling.
PCOM MS in Counseling faculty train students to work in a variety of clinical settings
with an emphasis on serving the underserved. Our students receive specialized training
in cognitive behavioral approaches, empirically based assessments and treatments,
consultation, and interprofessional collaboration. Each MS Counseling student also
completes an advocacy project and engages in self-care initiatives. Each course has
a diversity objective and assignment in which students explore various aspects of
individual and cultural dimensions.
At PCOM, counseling graduate students focus on understanding the whole person in a
manner that is consistent with the osteopathic philosophy of the university. Our faculty
includes highly credentialed and respected practitioners and scholars in the specialties
of counseling and counselor education who mentor students and provide a collaborative
learning environment.
